If you are planning to pursue an MS or MBA abroad, you will likely need to take either the GRE or GMAT. Understanding the differences between these two tests will help you make the right choice and maximize your chances of admission to top programs.

GRE – For MS Programs

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is widely accepted for MS programs in Science, Engineering, Social Sciences, and Humanities. It tests Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. The GRE General Test scores are valid for 5 years and accepted by 90% of graduate programs worldwide.

GMAT – For MBA Programs

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is specifically designed for business school admissions. It tests Analytical Writing, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, and Verbal sections. GMAT is preferred by top MBA programs at Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, INSEAD, and London Business School.

Can GRE Be Used for MBA?

Yes, many MBA programs now accept GRE scores, including top schools. However, if you are sure about pursuing an MBA at a top business school, GMAT may give you an edge. If you want flexibility to apply to both MS and MBA programs, GRE is the better choice.
