Test format is the biggest differentiator. IELTS speaking is face-to-face while PTE speaking is recorded on computer. IELTS results take 13 days while PTE gives results in 1-2 days. IELTS costs around ₹16,250 while PTE costs around ₹15,900. Both are valid for 2 years.

Choose IELTS if you prefer speaking to a real person, have strong handwriting skills, and are applying to institutions that specifically require IELTS. Choose PTE if you’re comfortable with computers, want faster results, need multiple attempts (PTE allows rebooking in just 3 days), or are targeting Australian universities and immigration.

Tips to Score High in Either Test

Regardless of which test you choose, consistent practice is key. Take at least 2-3 full mock tests before the actual exam. Focus on your weakest section. For IELTS writing, practice essay structures. For PTE, master the read-aloud and summarize spoken text sections as they impact multiple scores.
